The Nakshatras

The Nakshatras      Just  like  the  Rashis,  the  Nakshatras  also  break  up  the  zodiac  into  equally  spaced  segments.  There  are  27 Nakshatras, each taking up 13'20". The Nakshatras are also called Lunar mansions, as the Nakshatra position of the Moon is an important use of Nakshatras.
Each Nakshatra has a symbol, various attributes, and a planetary ruler.      In order to clarify the use of Nakshatras, we will first explain the major differences between the use of Rashis and Nakshtras.
Rashis are used to break up the chart into houses, as one Rashi corresponds to one house (the topic of the following lesson). Nakshatras do not correspond to any house, or to anything comparable.     - The attributes of the Rashis are highly symmetric, with the order of male-female, and movable-fixed-dual repeating in a consistent pattern. The attributes of the Nakshatras are not like that at all, and their significance is not easily derived from a mathematical pattern as in the case of the Rashis.

Niryana Shoola Dasha and Longivity

Niryana Shoola Dasha
This Dasha begins from Ascendant or 7 Hs which ever is stronger
1.       The one which is occupied by a planet is stronger than the one which is vacant.
2.       The one which is occupied by more number of planets than the one which is occupied by less.
3.        if both have equal number of planets then judge by own house , exaltation etc.
4.       If both are unoccupied then judge by the strength of Ascendant Lord or 7th Lord.
5.       If still strength remains same then  Lord attaining higher degree should be considered
(As you all know in Jaimini Dasha periods are assigned to Signs where as in Parashara dasha  assigned to planets )
Dasha Varsha
All signs carries 9 years and each Antardasha sign carries 9 months

Death inflicting planet or shool rashis
1.        2 and 8 signs in natural zodiac are owned by Venus and Mars.
Thses planets along with Moon generates Rudra Yoga
2.       Venus +Moon and Mars +Moon are two Rudra Yogas
3.        Sign containing or aspected by any of these yoga becomes killer sign and can give death
4.       Sign containing or aspected by Rudra planet (stronger of the Lords of 2 and 8 If weaker is a malefic and aspected by maleficor is strong can kill. If 8Lordis exalted own house or is Atma karaka then stronger of 8 or 12 Lord can kill)
5.       Arudha Lagna or signs in 7house or trine to it can give death.
6.       3rd and 8 House from Arudha Lagna are Houses of Vitality and if these are inflicted without any benefic influence, vitality gets zero and result in causing death
7.       A sign which is Badhaka Sthana or contains Badhakapati and is also afflicted , is also likely to kill
8.       Signs which have malefics in 2 and 12 from it or 5and 9 from it or 8 and 12 from it
9.       Sign of Maheshwara(where lord of 8 fromAtma karaka is posited)

Death Saviour Rashis
1.       Signs conjoining or aspected by Jupiter
2.       Signs  conjoining or aspected by Sun
3.       Signs conjoining or aspected by Atma karka
4.       (While considering aspect we are to only use Rashi Drishti
And
Sun and Jupiter give protection only if they are not Rudra or conjoin Rudra)

8th House:
 Lagna --8thhouse
Aries-- Scorpio ; Taurus--Gemini ; Gemini--Capricorn ;  Cancer--Sagittarius ; Leo-- Cancer ; Virgo--Aquarius ; Libra --Taurus  ; Scorpio--Sagittarius ; Sagittarius--Cancer ; Capricorn--Gemini ; Aquarius-- Capricorn  ; Pisces--Leo
Principle
1.         8th House from Lgana if it is odd but not fixed;
2.       If Lagna is an odd sign and if fixed sign too, then 8th from 7th if counted from backward;
3.       8tyh House from Lagna counting backwards , if lagna is in even sign but not fixed one .
4.       8th from 7th , if Lagna is in even sign and is also fixed one.

If Lagna Lord and 8 Lord are same , then we use above principles to see 8th Lord. We sea it in case of Aries lagna and Libra Lagna . For Aries Lagna 8th House is Sagittarius and its Lord is Jupiter and for Libra lagna 8th House is Taurus and for Taurus 8th House is Gemini and its lord is Mercury

THE MOST MALEFIC INFLUENCE

Mostly, the people seeking advantage of astrology remember it in the
time of distress.
Therefore, the first thing is to gauge the strength of the
planets so that the malefic influences on the weak planets can be
analyzed.
The most malefic influence in a nativity is that of the lord of
the eighth house if it contains a mooltrikona sign.
However, if it does not contain a mooltrikona sign, the title of the most malefic planet
passes on to the lord of the twelfth house if there is a mooltrikona sign.
Further, if, both the eighth and the twelfth houses do not contain a
mooltrikona sign, then the title of the most malefic planet passes on to
Ketu.

The close impact of the planets is gauged through their closeness to the
natal positions i.e. a longitudinal distance of less than 5 degrees.
Besidesthe natal position of the planets, there is mid-point or the most effective
point of each house known by the degree rising in the ascendant.
Suppose an ascendant of 16 degrees rises.
It means the mid-point or the most effective point of each house would
be 16 degrees. The most malefic planets in any house having a longitude
between 11 to 21 degrees would malefically influence the most effective
point of the house of its placement and the house(s)/ planet(s) aspected
by it or the planet(s) in conjunction with it.

MOST MALEFIC PLANET for the various ascendants.
ASCENDANT
 MOST MALEFIC PLANET (MMP)
Aries
 Ketu
Taurus
 Jupiter
Gemini
 Ketu
Cancer
 Saturn
Leo
The Moon
Virgo
 Mars
Libra
Mercury
Scorpio
Venus
Sagittarius
 The Moon
Capricorn
The Sun
Aquarius
 Mercury
Pisces
 Venu

If the planet or the lord of the house, with which the most malefic planet
is forming a close conjunction/aspect, is strong and well placed, this
most malefic planet creates tension(s) with regard to the matters
represented by the house/planet involved.
When the afflicted planet isweak, the significations suffer seriously.
When the afflicted planet is weak and badly placed, it results in tragic happenings.
To understand the difference between tension, serious trouble and tragic happenings
consider the situations of fever, jaundice and the loss of a limb ruled by
the concerned planet, respectively. The transit impact of slow moving
stationary malefic planets triggers the trouble. When the affliction is
close to the mid-point of the house, significations of all the houses
involved, that is the house occupied and the house(s) aspected, suffer.
In the case of the afflicted planets, besides their general significations,
the significations of the house (i) where the mooltrikona sign is placed,
and (ii) significations of the house where the planet is placed, suffer.
The descending order for the weak planets is a combust planet, bad
placement, debilitation, old age, infancy, debilitated in navamsa and the
weak dispositor.

Pitru Paksha

Pitru Paksha, the "fortnight of the ancestors ",This is a 16–lunar day period when Hindus pay homage, via food offerings.to their ancestors.Pitru Paksha is considered by Hindus an inauspicious period, which is also known as Shraadh or tarpan.
In western and southern India, it falls in the Hindu lunar month of Bhadrapada (September - October),starting from the full moon day (Poornima),falling immediately after the Ganesh festival and ending with the new moon day known as 'Sarvapitri amavasya' or 'Mahalaya amavasya'. In North India and Nepal, this period corresponds to the dark fortnight of the month Ashwin.
LEGEND
According to Hindu mythology, the souls of three preceding generations of one's ancestor reside in Pitru–loka, a realm between heaven and earth.
This realm is governed by Yama, the god of death, who takes the soul of a dying man from earth to Pitru–loka. When a person of the next generation dies, the first generation shifts to heaven and unites with God, so Shraddha offerings are not given.
Thus, only the three generations in Pitru–loka are given Shraddha rites, in which Yama plays a significant role.
According to the sacred Hindu epics (Itihasa), at the beginning of Pitru Paksha, the sun enters the zodiac sign of Virgo (Kanya).
Coinciding with this moment, it is believed that the spirits leave Pitru–loka and reside in their descendants' homes for a month until the sun enters the next zodiac—Scorpio (Vrichchhika)—and there is a full moon.
Hindus are expected to propitiate the ancestors in the first half, during the dark fortnight.

When the legendary donor Karna died in the epic Mahabharata war, his soul transcended to heaven, where he was offered gold and jewels as food.
However, Karna needed real food to eat and asked Indra, the lord of heaven, the reason for serving gold as food.
Indra told Karna that he had donated gold all his life, but had never donated food to his ancestors in Shraddha.
Karna said that since he was unaware of his ancestors, he never donated anything in their memory.
To make amends, Karna was permitted to return to earth for a 16–day period, so that he could perform Shraddha and donate food and water in their memory.
This period is now known as Pitru Paksha. In some legends, Yama replaces Indra.
The fifteen days of Malaya Paksha consists of 15 Tithi (also called Thithi). They are Pratipat, Dvitiya, Tritiya, Chaturthi, Panchami, Shashti, Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, Dasami, Ekadasi, Dvadasi, Trayodasi, Chaturdashi, Amavasya (new moon).
According to Hindu mythology, every individual's who wants to perform this Pitru Tharpanam, they should do it on the same day of their ancestor died which will fall within any one of these fifteen days.

The performance of Shraddha by a son during Pitru Paksha is regarded as a compulsory by Hindus, to ensure that the soul of the ancestor goes to heaven. In this context, the scripture Garuda Purana says, "there is no salvation for a man without a son". The scriptures preach that a householder should propitiate ancestors (Pitris), along with the gods (devas), ghosts (bhutas) and guests. The scripture Markandeya Purana says that if the ancestors are content with the shraddhas, they will bestow health, wealth, knowledge and longevity, and ultimately heaven and salvation (moksha) upon the performer.
The performance of Sarvapitri amavasya rites can also compensate a forgotten or neglected annual shraddha ceremony, which should ideally coincide with the death anniversary of the deceased.

Rashi Drishti BPHS Ch. 8

~~ BPHS Ch. 8, Shloka 1-9 = 1-3. Rashi Drishti:

O Maitreya, now detailed are the drishtis emanating from the rashi Mesha, etc..
·         Every movable rashi casts drishti upon the 3 fixed rashi leaving the fixed rashi adjacent to it.
·         Every fixed rashi gives drishti to the 3 movable rashi barring the adjacent movable rashi.
·         And a common rashi gives a drishti to the other three common rashi.
·         The graha in a rashi gives the same drishti as the rashi (in which the graha is) does.

4-5. Dristhi of the Graha:
·         A graha in a movable rashi gives a drishti to the other 3 fixed rashi leaving the fixed rashi next to it.
·         A graha in a fixed rashi does not give a drishti to the next movable rashi, but the remaining 3 movable rashi.
·         The one in a common rashi gives a drishti to the remaining 3 common rashi.
·         Simultaneously, a graha in the rashi that receives a drishti is also subjected to the drishti concerned.

6-9. Diagram of Drishti:
As depicted by Lord Brahma, I now narrate the diagram of drishti, so that drishti are easily understood by a mere sight of the diagram.
Draw a square or a circle marking the 8 directions (4 corners and 4 quarters thereof).
Mark the zodiacal rashis as under:
1
Mesha and Vrishabha
in east;
2
Mithuna
in the north-east;
3
Karka and Simha
in the north;
4

6
Dhanusha
in the south-west;
7
Makara and Kumbha
in the south;
8
Meena
in the south-east.

·         No Graha Drishti
·         (sends only Rashi Drishti)

·         Drishti of Guru upon the 5th and 9th houses from Himself indicates purva-punya = credit from compassionate actions of past lives..
·         In practice, Graha which receive drishti of Guru become easier, more optimistic, more inclusive and abundant, more naturally expansive. When Shani receives drishti of Guru, the native's work comes easily, although there is a lot of it, and if Surya is there one may come to boast of one's accomplishments.
·         Drishti of Shani upon the 3rd, 7th, and 10th houses from Himself indicates ignorance needing to be transformed into wisdom, a heavy workload, and materialistic constraints born by the receiving graha.
·         The nature of the work depends on houses ruled by Shani.
·         E.g., for Thula lagna , Shani as L-4+L-5 is very much the education lord. Graha receiving drishti of Shani for the Thulanative will give hard effort toward educational attainments that carry a mark of Divine-intelligence channeling genius. But make no mistake this variety of genius is the result of heavy, relentless, labor and entirely lawful behavior.
·         Mahatma Gandhi has the Shani drishti into bhava-4 of patriotism, the customs of one's land and people, schooling - and Ketu in 4. Gandhi was a highly eccentric (Ketu) but entirely lawful (Shani) and ultimately brilliant (5) teacher (4), for which he paid a very high price in terms of insecurity and discomfort (Shani/4)
·         Drishti of Rahu upon the 5th and 9th houses from Himself indicates purva-paapa = debit from selfish actions during previous births.
o    Rahu's strongest drishti is actually His 12th ray, which He casts upon the 12th-from-Himself.
o    Since Rahu is travelling "backward" He is casting a very strong eye on the place He is progressing into, 12th-from.
o    The house 12th-from Rahu is where (although nobody expects it)
o    Rahu will do his worst damage through uncontrolled acts of passion and taboo-breaking desire.
·         Ketu sends no drishti.
